The album "Piano.pl” was recognised by Jazz Forum magazine readers as the best jazz album of the year! It is not the only recognition as "Piano.pl" concert was on top of all jazz events that took place in Poland in 2016!
We would like to thank all the voters as well as the editor for publishing great photos not only of “Piano.pl” concert, but also of Henryk Miśkiewicz's jubilee concert in the National Philharmonic Hall.
Jazz Forum magazine has been the only paper edition of jazz press in Poland and it reaches the most remote parts of the country and is often the most import_ant source of infirmation there. For us, jazzmen and jazzfans is the magazine with longlasting tradition, which we hold in high esteem and are very fond of. The more glad we are to be recognised by the readers. Let us remind that the album was also nominated to "Fryderyk" award and Dorota was nominated as the artist of the year by Phonographic Academy “Fryderyk” as well as the jury that grants Koryfeusz Muzyki Polskiej (“Coryphaeus of Polish Music”) awards.
PIANO.PL on CD, DVD and Vinyl
PIANO.PL is an audio/video recording of a unique concert which took place in Warsaw on May 16th, 2016 in Roma Musical Theatre. The project is a tribute to the Polish pianism. Dorota Miskiewicz points out that piano is the Polish speciality and, among many excellent musicians, it is the pianists who have the lead. As jazz is the genre closest to Dorota's heart she emphasises, above all, the achievements of Polish jazz pianists who spectacularly follow the path once marked out by world renowned musician Krzysztof Komeda as well as Fryderyk Chopin, who was not only a great composer but also ... an improviser. Dorota Miskiewicz offers an album with duos performed with remarkable pianists of different generations. They are the pianists who have been creating the history of Polish jazz (Wlodzimierz Nahorny, Andrzej Jagodzinski, Bogdan Holownia), the younger artists (Leszek Mozdzer, Marcin Wasilewski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Michal Tokaj) together with the representatives of the youngest generation (Dominik Wania, Piotr Orzechowski "Pianohooligan). In the circle of over a dozen of great personalities of Polish music also appeared a famous polish singer Grzegorz Turnau, in the role of a pianist. Lutoslawski Piano Duo played four-handed and Tomasz Kalwak presented his own sound of synthesizer. Some duos were accompanied by an oustanding Atom String Quartet. The famous songs that went down to history of Polish music have been chosen to be played in the concert as well as recorded on the album and the choice was dictated by Dorota's personal likes, her subjective sensitivity to music and lyrics. The decisions about the arrangement remained in each of the pianists' hands. Some arrangements are surprising and show a new face of more or less known songs, others seek for simplicity and are not much different from their originals. Both kinds amaze ! The album came out in the CD, DVD and Vinyl format. It is also available on popular streaming services and iTunes.
The project came into existence thanks to co-operation of Universal Music Poland, Oficyna Artystyczna 13 Kotow, Grupa Gorazdze, TVP 2, and Narodowy Instytut Audiowizualny (The National Audiovisual Institute) www.nina.gov.pl
